GAASTRA Les Régates de st. Barth

For an annual yacht racing event, co-sponsored by my client, I was asked to design the concept 'Les Régates de st.Barth'- an additional capsule collection of which the design direction is used as a style guide for the brand's following main collections. After a first presentation of theme's, we determined 'Classic Regatta' would suit the consumers expectancy best.
Driven by typography, the focus on Gaastra's polo shirts is the authentic sailing heritage. Type and content needed to link with the original race information and location of this caribbean sailing regatta.
Prior to sketching, I established a presentation for the use of type and the correct mood. I focused on the notice of race guidelines for competitors, that offered an abundance of textual and visual cues.
The initial presentation was translated into sketches. Pencil and watercolor paint effects emphasize the warm and classic feel, but the choice for strong fabric base colors bright white and dark navy formed an appealing contrast. This was received with great enthusiasm as it contained new ideas to use in the future collection.
Two directions were selected for luxury shirt production. Clear tech sheets provided the manufacturer with specific details for all artworks, badges, techniques and materials.
This project led to a trust in my creativity and production knowledge, forming the base for BlueOrangeGraphics to support Gaastra with graphic design in several collections.
